How Long Does It Take To Build A Website?
Now in this day and age we all know that we need a website for our business. Most customers do research when deciding what company they want to go with. So a website (and a google business profile) are an important part. It can show what your company believes, what services you provide, reviews from your customers and how to easily contact you. So the question bears: How long does it take to build a website? It sounds like a an easy questions to answer, but there are many aspects that go into building a website other than just putting your companies information on a platform and saying boom it’s done.
Some simple factors that affect website development time are:
- What type of website for example simple informational website or a complex e commerce platform.
- The graphic design and branding elements
- Content creation and SEO optimization of content
I’m going to add one more thing to this and it is client cooperation. Marketing is a team effort and if you are not going to provide bio information or images etc, than your website is just not going to be ready no matter how much I get it there. We work together to make your website masterpiece.
Now let’s talk about the stages of the website development process.
First off we have: PLANNING PHASE
- this is the phase where we define your website goals and objectives. Some questions might be is the website going to be used to drive traffic to your business, or is it a business card. Do you want it to convert customers that are at different stages of your pipeline/funnel? Will you be actively creating content and updating your website to help reach more customers? Will you be advertising? So in need of a landing page specifically designed to convert?
- Another aspect of this phase is the market research! What exactly are your competitors doing and how are they going about it? We are going to take your competitor that is ranking #1,#2, and #3 in google (maybe even more) and make sure that your website does everything better. This ranges from design to word count.
Next is the DESIGN PHASE:
- This part is where we discuss what colours, font, look, feel, you want for your website. After we have the basics down, we start building out a basic preview so that you can view it all together and decide if the colours and design are what you are looking for. Don’t worry my feelings won’t be hurt if you don’t like something. This is representing your business. Make sure it is something that you like and what you want.
- Now the more revisions you have and the more you are wishy washy on things, the longer your website build will take.
DEVELOPMENT PHASE would be naturally next.
- This is integrated into the design phase for me but it is still a phase due to the amount of coding and actual building goes into the website once we have the frame work done. This would be the longest phase, especially if you have a high number of pages. I do make sure that everything is optimized and ready to have regular search engine optimization take place. I set you up for success in the search results.
- This is the phase where we add in any pixels, or google tags that you would like if you are tracking user analytics.
- You will be able to see this phase as it develops, and still be able to change things as needed.
CONTENT INTEGRATION
- Once the website framework is built we can start adding content. I will use what we discovered in the market analysis and competitive research to know what keywords to target and how much content we need to have on each page. All of the content will be search engine optimized and I will implement on page - SEO best practices.
TESTING AND QUALITY ASSURANCE - One of the most important steps!
- You don’t buy a car without first test driving it first! This is where we test out each part of your website and ensure that each link connects to where it is supposed to. All of my websites are mobile optimized and I ensure that it works across a variety of devices.
LAUNCH
- Now I connect it to your DNS. This is the exciting part where your website design goes live! All my websites include a secure connection, so that is not something you need to purchase separately. After launch we do another check to make sure everything is working as it should. Including google analytics, search console and google tag manager.
OK so all of this goes into making and designing your website, so how long does this actually take to design your website?? That is the original question after all.
But now you know it isn’t such as easy answer to give.
At minimum 2 weeks to create a basic website, but if you have a high number of pages and content that is needed, that number increases.
What assists in speeding up this process?
- Great communication and collaboration: so basically you provide everything I need in a timely manner and respond when I ask for your opinion on the design.
Overall it is best to have realistic expectations for your website design. This is not something that you want to rush as you want to have a great functionality and user experience right out of the gate. Now that you know all of the work that goes into creating a website, you can understand that it not only takes time but experience to build a website that will perform well.
